VARELAS S.A. was established in the early 50’s by the pharmacist Nikolaos D. Varelas as N.D. VARELAS S.A. Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals.
The organisation developed soon to be one of the strongest suppliers of Pharmaceuticals in Greece.
Since 1978, the company focused its activities on Marketing and Distribution of In Vitro Diagnostics and soon became one of the market leaders in Greece. In 1992, the company President at the time, Dennis N. Varelas, son of the company founder, a distinguished and intuitive entrepreneur, decided to re-organise the company on a customer-oriented basis, with a view to meet successfully the market opportunities he identified. The new organisation further strengthened its leading market position both, in terms of sales volume and, most importantly, as a market driver towards introduction and implementation of innovative platforms and state-of-the-art technologies.

In 1993 the company name changed to VARELAS S.A. Chemicals & Diagnostics.
In 1995, realising the growth potential that characterised the Analytical market, VARELAS S.A. acquired the majority of Tech- Line S.A., a dynamic privately owned company dedicated in Marketing and Distribution of analytical products.

Two years later, in 1997, in light of the opportunities that the rapid developments in Life-science research offered, VARELAS S.A. expanded its activities in the Life-science research market.
VARELAS S.A. was one of the first companies that installed a quality management system. The company was ISO 9002 certified for the first time in the year 2001. Today VARELAS S.A. is an ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certified company.
